Bay Creek, Virginia

Overlooking the Chesapeake Bay on Virginia’s famous Eastern Shore, Bay Creek is a nature-lover’s dream. The community chose to convert nine holes of golf back into a nature preserve, and asked Avid Trails to create a network of trails to allow foot and bike access to the shoreline. It’s a stunning landscape, and we were thrilled to help bring this project to life. Wild grasses, flowers and other native plantings are turning the old fairways into lush meadows and wildlife habitats. Since we completed the first phase of trails, so many more residents and visitors can now enjoy this beautiful piece of land.

Our assignment included design and installation of maps, trail signage and wayfinding.

This Bay Creek trailhead kiosk design incorporates natural elements and materials found around the cape.

The Avid Trail graphics department created these fun and informative interpretive displays featured along the trails. Shout out to biogeographer Will Gandy and and local naturalist Joe Fehrer for invaluable help in sourcing the content.
