From concept to construction, the Avid Trails team partnered with the Borough of High Bridge, NJ, JORBA and local advocates to plan, design and build the state’s first mountain bike designated trails on public land. After the successful implementation of a small scale pump track at the start of the Columbia Trail, a regional multi-use rail trail, and the ongoing success of the nearby Nassau Trail system the community was clammoring for more bike specific facilities. Seeing the increased demand, the Avid Team assessed the land above the pump track, developed a concept plan, presented to town council for approval, obtained funding through JORBA, raised additional funds in partnership with volunteers and local businesses then completed construction. A little over a year later and this little trail system is quickly becoming one of the most popular in New Jersey for riders of all ability levels.
